UPDATE: The Bettendorf Police Department identified the 16-year-old boy who drowned on Saturday at Crow Creek Park.
Jermilyn Gardner of Davenport had been swimming in the quarry.
“Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and the Davenport West High School Community during this very difficult time,” said Bettendorf Police Department Chief Keith Kimball.

Before He Died, Charlie Daniels Wrote a Novel
Charlie Daniels left behind friends, family, fans, music and a book. The country singer had just finished a novel before his July 6 death.
The plot of his novel is not known, but in a post on Daniels' Soap Box webpage, Charlie Daniels Jr. assures that the family is not going to let it collect dust. Finding an editor is next, then they'll shop it to publishers.
This isn't the first time Daniels has put thoughts to bound paper — his memoir, Never Look at Empty Seats, was published in 2017.

Judge Clarence “Mike” Darrow has been unanimously elected as chief judge by the circuit judges of the 14th Judicial Circuit for a two-year term starting December 5. Darrow will succeed Chief Judge Frank Fuhr, who will continue to serve as presiding judge of the Rock Island County Criminal Division, having reached his term limit. The 22 judges of the Illinois 14th Judicial Circuit preside over the courts of Henry, Mercer, Rock Island and Whiteside counties.

Brandon Gordon, 23, Quandarius McCarty, 21 and Jalon Thigpen, 23, were all charged with trafficking a controlled substance with an enhancement for possession of a weapon at the time of the arrest and booked into the Forrest County Jail.
